Spinning

I've been spending some time trying to get the hang of spinning on a friends wheel loaned to me for a few weeks.  Spinning has intrigued me for some time, and I've always thought that down the road I would delve into this genre.  Suddenly the opportunity presented itself, and I'm finding that I'm glad it came sooner than later.

The product of my spinning is still pretty rough.  More often I find that things seem to be going smoothly, but then suddenly it goes all wrong and gets all twisty and I have to stop and get the process on the right track again.  But that's okay--someday it will all come together.  This spinning thing is quite relaxing, even if it's not fine tuned yet.

I have no idea what I will do with my product and still have to learn how to put the yarn together to make different plies, and for that matter learn how to knit more effectively, but it's a lot of fun thinking about doing such things.

Susan is my ever present spinning partner, actually she's more like the spinning wheel's partner.  Due to the hot weather the room my sewing things are in has been open and she has found she likes to sleep by the wheel even when I'm not there.  This is the same cat who likes to be by my sewing machine--even when it's packed away in a box from moving she seeks it out.  I'm convinced that in her previous life she was a sassy lady who occupied herself with such things.  If only she could talk I bet she could teach me a lot.

Already looking online at spinning wheels and thinking about getting my own.
