Little Marvels

Peas didn't grow all that great in Arizona--they grew, but the dry climate took its toll.  Peas grow great in Minnesota and I'm kicking myself for not planting more.  It hasn't helped that Jewel decided to systematically pulverize the pea plants I had going around the deck, but I feel like there are definitely not enough peas for me to eat to my heart's content.  Fall crop will be a bit more plentiful, sugar snap, garden peas...yum.

Herbs & Other Things

Today was the first day it was comfortable to leave the windows open until noon.  It was also the official day for planting things like radishes, herbs, and cooler weather greens and peas according to the U of A planting guidelines.  This evening under some feathery orange clouds that's what I was up to in the little side plot.

I Have Peas

No news to report, except that its been a busy and tedious week with testing.  Sorry for the lack of posts, but testing takes so much energy that by the time 3:00 hits I've been completely worn out.  Confining 10 and 11 year olds in their chairs for 4 hours and then having to referee the rest of the day is quite the task at times...that I got done but it took a lot of energy.

The garden has been getting a lot of water.  It will cool down to the 80's soon, just don't want things to fry before that.  I do have peas to report.  These are the first few, and plenty more are on the way.  Yum.

Action

wish I had put in more red cabbage...doing fantastic

collards...love the little saw toothed look to the leafs!

sweat peas starting to climb!

pole beans getting started...these technically aren't suppose to be in until summer, but I'm giving them a try during this planting phase

my hibiscus opening up

the basket flowers filling out and draping over

This is just some of the action in the garden this afternoon.  So glad I soaked the garden down last night extra well.  The moisture sucking desert air and then the extra wind today completely dried everything out again...if it hadn't been soaked it would have definitely caused an issue with the seedlings popping up.

All Sorts of Things Sprouting!

Tending garden in the dark during the week means I often may not glimpse everything that's going on since I usually get home after dark.  I was pleasantly surprised Saturday morning to see some things starting to sprout!

Alisa Craig sprout...I've never grown onions from seed before...I am doing both seed and bulb as a sort of an experiment this season.  I've been eagerly waiting for a few sprouts to show up!

beets...first time growing these!

sweat peas!!

can you see the lolla rosa?

My lettuce mix...this is the planter Jewel hopped in and I've been waiting to see
if and how things sprout so I can patch it up.  This row did well.
