I just noticed that I put my spring flag up backwards...but it was a cheerful greeting yesterday evening just the same
The last few weeks have been stressful for a few reasons that are really quite minor in the grand scheme of things. Then current events this week got depressing and troubling so that I couldn't even bear to listen to my usual NPR feeds. All this found me by yesterday completely off my game, positivity waning, and grouchy quickly becoming the mood of the moment.
Certain things are not as I want them right now. We're in a stage of stay or go at the house with a long list on each side, and inside my laundry has piled up and the dust bunnies and plenty other things are taking over due to the late afternoons at work {and then late evenings with friends}. My classroom is nothing like I envisioned it would be this year and I've spent way too little time organizing and getting it to the place I want it to be--the other day I actually found myself missing my scorpion filled previous one {a sure sign things are not well with my thinking!}. For a person who loves making a place her own and can't feel settled until that's done these things in addition to those other things were quickly starting to put me over the edge.
But on the drive home the birch trees with the pointy white pines that peek over their tops and red, clumpy dogwood were so breathtakingly beautiful, and then The Stable Song randomly came on and I was transported to the realization of how far things had moved toward the "right" setting--that song for many years was the first one on the playlist when I would get home late and tired and go out to the garden in the dark. I got a call from an old colleague about halfway through the drive and instantly became so very grateful for where I was completely--even for my messy house and snowy/muddy yard and boggy winding driveway just because they are here in this beautiful forest that has been patiently waiting to wake up. Sometimes all I need is a good kick to knock me back on track.
trying to take a lesson from Susan the cat among the clutter I need to work through...
Luckily, the kick happened at the start of the weekend and gave me a chance to strategize how to make it a good one. Sure, there is some cleaning scheduled {because after all I have company in the form of a good friend who I've missed staying over this weekend and this place is a Mess and she at least needs a place to sit}, but mostly a lot of fabric fun and a few more seedlings to plant and some good company to share and probably some time outside too in some pretty nice temperatures.
I've spent way too little time with fabric lately and musical instruments and breathing in outside fresh air. Besides sewing for an eagerly anticipated niece that will be arriving any week now, there's some curtain remodeling projects planned--because curtains after all are very essential to the harmony of a home and are not very expensive to make and easy to repurpose {so if things change it's no big deal}. And the next quilt project that's been almost a year overdue in the starting is something I woke up ready to lay out.
The drips off the roof are non-stop already. It may get up to 50* today. It's my first weekend in April in the woods and this and the anticipation of all that is coming has me feeling like myself again. It's been a long winter--but the end is nearing. By the end of this week maybe most of the snow will be melted off and gardening will really start looking like a true possibility. But even if it's not, that's okay. It's not below zero anymore and that's progress.
